Volunteers Celebrate MLK Day at Mercy Home

Updated: Aug 8, 2019

“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. - Martin Luther King, Jr. Greetings!

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. and in celebration of his life and work -- this past weekend Mercy Home for Children hosted a weekend of service. We were joined by remarkable volunteers from Ridgewood Savings Bank,Opperman Weiss and Superfly. Every volunteer spent their day off with us and contributed their creativity, spirit and energy cleaning, painting and organizing our Creative Arts Therapy (CAT) rooms.

At Mercy Home, our CAT program serves almost 100 children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental challenges that have trouble in learning or with verbal expression.

This unique program provides vital music, drama, and art therapy allowing each child to become innovators of their expression, using both verbal and non-verbal contexts to be present, focused, and expressive.

We can’t thank everyone enough for spending their day with us!  Check out the photos from our MLK Weekend of service. Don't miss our next service day this April, Email Helen for more information.
