Direct Support Professionals
At Mercy Home, Direct Support Professionals are at the heart of our work. We seek dynamic individuals to assist residents with personal care, program implementation, and recreation and social opportunities. We offer competitive benefits as part of 1199 SEIU. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and a valid, unrestricted NYS Driver's License. Experience preferred, but not necessary.
As a Direct Support Professional, I like to help people. Teaching someone a new skill makes me feel great! I like to see them do things that make them more independent, like when my co-worker and I taught them how to ride a bike. When they started pedaling without our assistance, I was just as proud of them as if they were my own children."

Join Our Team
I started working for Mercy Home in 2001. I had many tasks, but one I enjoyed the most was helping with breakfast. When I became a Direct Support Professional, I quickly realized that people with developmental disabilities are like anyone else—loving and caring. I knew that I had to focus on their strengths so they can accomplish their goals."

"Growing up, one of the kids on my block suffered from Down syndrome. He used to sit out from many group activities. One day I invited him to play and more and more he used to be involved in our group activities. One day in high school his parents showed me one of his essays that stated I was his hero. I was blown away by this statement."
